Pine Valley Retirement Community in Tuscaloosa paused Thursday on Veterans Day to recognize the 21 men and women who served in the armed forces. Among them was 100-year-old Charles Smith who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the second World War. Smith was a mail clerk stationed in England. Nicolas Britto, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, gave remarks then helped honor veterans with the presentation of a flag to each.
