Columbus Academy field hockey coach Anne Horton, who recently earned her 600th career victory, has decided to retire from coaching and her position as an assistant athletics director at the end of the school year, she told ThisWeek on Nov. 2.
Horton led the Vikings to 12 state titles in 31 seasons, the most recent of which ended Oct. 30 with a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Thomas Worthington in a regional final. She earned her 600th win with a 2-1 victory over Upper Arlington on Oct. 26.
She went 526-35-29 at Academy and 600-72-39 in 38 seasons overall. Horton previously coached at Asheville School in North Carolina and North Ridgeville Lake Ridge Academy.
Horton also coached the Academy girls lacrosse team for 25 seasons, compiling a 332-88-8 record with three state titles. She retired from that role after what would have been her 26th season, in 2020, was canceled because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
