MADISON, Wis. — Madison Police Assistant Chief Victor “Vic” Wahl is set to retire after 30 years with the department.
MPD shared a post celebrating Wahl’s retirement on its Facebook page Monday night.
“30 years of extraordinary service to our community! Thank you and you will be greatly missed,” the post reads.
Wahl stepped in as interim police chief after longtime Madison police chief Mike Koval announced his retirement in 2019. He would eventually return to his role as assistant chief after the City’s current police chief Dr. Shon Barnes was sworn-in near the beginning of 2021.
Be it the COVID-19 pandemic or last summer’s protests in downtown Madison, Wahl said his 16 months as interim chief felt like a decade.
