Prescott—After nine years as Regional Director for the Arizona Community Foundation of Yavapai County, Carol Chamberlain has announced plans to retire on March 31, 2021. Carol has helped ACF of Yavapai County grow its assets from $18 million to $63 million, over three times the growth compared to when she first joined the office. This in turn has provided significant growth in grant dollars for projects and programs within the community.
“Under Carol’s leadership, ACF of Yavapai County has developed into a model for our five other regional affiliate offices,” said Steve Seleznow, ACF President & CEO. “She is a leader in this community and has contributed greatly to ACF and the community. We will miss her greatly but wish her much happiness in her retirement. We are in the process of selecting a successor who can build upon this legacy and ensure ACF of Yavapai County continues to benefit from strong community leadership.”
Carol came to ACF with over 20 years of experience in nonprofit management, having served as President and CEO of the Greater Southwest Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. She also worked with the National Arthritis Foundation as a major gift officer.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Texas Woman’s University and holds a master’s degree in nursing from Rush University in Chicago. She was an emergency room nurse and later became a Family Nurse Practitioner during the early part of her career.
“When I first came to ACF of Yavapai County, I felt I had the background and experience to take the organization into the future and help strengthen the brand,” said Carol. “I’m sad to leave, but happy with the accomplishments we’ve achieved in the past decade. One of our proudest moments is our partnership with Yavapai County Education Services Agency in their development of Arizona Reads Now, a program developed to help children achieve third grade reading levels by the time they got to fourth grade. We have built an amazing Board of Advisors and the relationships I have made will carry me into the future. My husband, Ken Mabarak, and I will always be involved in the community in some capacity. It’s just time for another adventure.”
“Carol will be greatly missed,” said Jenna James, Chair of the ACF of Yavapai County Board of Advisors, “Her enthusiasm for the work and relationships with donors have been remarkable. She has been able to provide us with the solid platform we need to continue the trajectory of the foundation and to maintain our partnerships with so many nonprofits in the county. We are confident her successor will continue down the same path she has carefully designed.”
