Larry Fitzgerald retire? Patrick Peterson Arizona Cardinals prediction

Patrick Peterson was Larry Fitzgerald’s teammate for 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

Now with the Minnesota Vikings, the cornerback made some predictions about the wide receiver’s future on Tuesday.

The Cardinals, and their fans, and many NFL fans have been waiting for the future Hall of Famer to announce his playing plans or his retirement plans for months.

“If he ain’t retired yet, he ain’t going to retire,” Peterson said of Fitzgerald on his All Things Covered podcast with Bryant McFadden.

When asked by McFadden if the Cardinals even have room on their roster for Fitzgerald, Peterson replied:

“I think they will definitely find a way, they will find a way for it. If Larry definitely wanted to come back late in the year, or whenever the time may permit itself, they will find a way.

McFadden also asked Peterson if he had heard any Vikings buzz associated with Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is from Minnesota and many have wondered if he might go home to conclude his NFL career.

“No, I haven’t,” Peterson said. “That would be interesting if he wanted to come back to Minnesota, but I necessarily don’t see that happening. If there was a team that he was going back to it would be Arizona.”

After saying that he sees Fitzgerald playing with the Cardinals or not playing at all, Peterson did add that he could potentially “see him going to Tampa Bay too,” with the receiver being reunited with his former Arizona coach Bruce Arians on the Buccaneers.

“Larry understands the position that he is in right now. He’s not going to go out there and give your forty, fifty plays a game,” Peterson said on the podcast. “He’ll be in Year 17, he understands he can probably go out there and give you a good twenty, at least. And why not it be in a system you already know in Bruce Arians or come back to Arizona if they are able to make a run, help those guys make a push in the playoffs.”

Fitzgerald has been with the Cardinals, the team that drafted him, for 17 seasons.

He has played in 263 games, getting 1,432 receptions for 17,492 yards and 121 touchdowns, becoming one of the best wide receivers in NFL history and a first-ballot selection for the Hall of Fame.

Since 2016, Fitzgerald has been signing one year contracts with the team.

But he’s never taken this long to make up his mind about continuing to play for the Cardinals before, which has prompted speculation that he could be ready to end his career and move on to other endeavors.
