KING 5’s Chris Cashman was lucky enough to join the special St. Patrick’s Day giveaway with the Lakeshore Retirement community.
SEATTLE — It was around St. Patrick’s Day in 2020 that celebrations were put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Last year, the Lakeshore Retirement community in south Seattle had to quickly alter celebration plans. KING 5 was there as Lakeshore adapted so residents could still enjoy a bagpipe performance from their windows and balconies.
But no one knew just how isolating the next year would be. Not being alone or isolated is at the core of retirement communities. And on Wednesday, that was on full display in Seattle.
For St. Patrick’s Day in 2021, the Lakeshore community wanted to celebrate together in a safe, socially-distanced manner.
Some lucky friends and neighbors were invited to a drive-through party with a special Irish treat. The chefs at Lakeshore prepared homemade Irish Soda Bread and Jam, boxed up to-go for free.
Executive Director Lindsey Pelland said Wednesday was a good reminder of what communal and senior living is all about, “It’s about the friendships and the support and the fun.”
