Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson is another in a growing list of elected officials that have chosen to retire in the past few months.

The Jefferson County Commissioners Court is set to recognize his retirement and appoint Travis McCall to fill the unexpired term at their Tuesday morning meeting.

According to a resolution to be held in Chesson’s honor, he was first elected to the position in Nov. 1996.

He “earned the respect of fellow elected officials, local law enforcement, his constituents and the members of his staff by performing his duties as Justice of the Peace with dignity and honor …” the resolution says.
